The Joy of Unboxing: Rum & Bones

I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest

Avast me h–you know the drill! Let’s unbox a brand new copy of Cool Mini or Not’s Rum & Bones.

Arrrrrrggghhhh!! Actually, I’m not arghing today, I’m quite happy, because my Kickstarter-funded copy of CMON’s Rum & Bones just arrived in the post. And not only that – wait for it – it’s only a month behind schedule. And what’s more, the core set and all the stretch goals arrived in one shipment! You know, it’s enough to turn an old pirate honest (not that you can trust me with that).

Seriously, well done CMON, after several very successful campaigns and a few hiccups and disgruntled backers along the way, they seem to have turned this Kickstarter campaign process into a well-oiled machine. This no doubt comes as a result of the piles of cash pouring into their office and the subsequent ability to hire a lot more staff. I have pledges running with a couple more of their current campaigns (Blood Rage and B-Sieged) and here’s hoping they both arrive in such a timely fashion.

Not only timely, but high quality, because this is one impressive box of piratey goodies, and I think CMON are now officially giving big boys like FFG a serious run for their money. The price was reasonable, the shipping was more than reasonable, and the game itself is top quality throughout – wonderfully detailed miniatures full of character in several colours, thick card, fantastic artwork, and even thoughtful packaging.

As for the game itself, I’ll keep you posted and let you know if it lives up to these spectacular production values as soon as I get it to the table. But for now, before I leave you, just one more … AAARGGHHHHHHH!!!!

And here i was expecting an expansion to Journey…AAARGGHH!!

This looks wonderful! So much stuff, so many stretchgoals and finally everything shipped together on time. Even in such a short timeframe, as this was funded last december. Very nice indeed to finally see a campaign going so well. After quite some “meh” experiences, seeing this refuels the joy of kickstarter and i’m looking forward to the next Cmon project.

Now if you excuse me. I ‘ave to smother me regret of not backing this with rum, lots of rum.

Very impressive bunch of figures. The whole production of R&B looks very good. Hope you have fun playing it.
Just wiped up the drool from watching your unboxing – I was so very tempted when the KS was running.
Have you started painting any figures yet ?

I’ve my fingers crossed Z:BlackPlague comes through as smoothly. Cmon are certainly getting a lot of experience running Kickstarters so the should be getting better. And now the Others is starting an alluring chant on my credit card.

    • I’m not sure when I’ll get around to painting any of the figures; doing the entire set would be a daunting task, with all those deckhands! But I’d like to do the heroes eventually, at least.

I’d imagine a simple dark wash would be all you’d need for the deckhands to bring out the details.
Make the crew more of a coordinated monochrome and give the characters the full EOoG technicolour treatment.

Although it is easy to say this when you know you won’t be doing the work 🙂

Can anyone under 18 play this game? Or is it Arrrgh-rated?

  • PG. Piratical guidance suggested. Bam!

I miss the old ‘X’ rating in UK. X does mark the spot. Is every unboxing a Journey now?

One of the games shops in Sydney has Rum & Bones in at $160AUD – yike !
