Wrath of Kings Showcase: Nasier Bloodmasks

Wrath of Kings

How can we live without our lives?

The Wrath of Kings showcase series begins: first up, the Nasier Pelegarth Bloodmasks.

P over 200 miniatures is a daunting prospect, but like most big things in life there’s only one way to go about it: a little at a time. So I’m currently concentrating on finishing the Nasier faction for Wrath of Kings, in preparation for my friend Will’s next visit and our first games of the new system (he’s working on the Goritsi). There are a total of 5 factions in the game by the way.

The Nasier have two infantry types with 18 figures each: the Pelegarth Bloodmasks and the Swordsmen. Shown are the wonderful Bloodmasks, the refreshingly heavyset women wearing elemental masks who wear no armour because not only does the mask turn their skin so tough as to render armour as just an encumbrance but, as shock troops, they enjoy the disconcerting effect their nudity has on their enemies.

These were pretty quick and easy to paint, though painting 18 of one type of figure can be a bit of a chore. The skin is basically white mixed with a bit of purple and shaded with white, and just about everything else is black shaded with grey and white. Note the relatively bright highlight on the knees: this really works well on those leggings. The masks are crimson shaded with a touch of white. A bright gold was used for the sword hilts and shield trims. Finally, I applied dots of black, then white, then yellow for the eyes.

Congratulations on finishing them. I really like the way you did the eyes with the black out line and yellow centre but boy you must have gotten sick of it by the last figure. Did you purchase Elsis Tagil their rank 2 leader ? She is more in keeping stylistically with the Bloodmasks than the Howls.

    • No, unfortunately, the only add-ons I purchased were the faction monsters. Still, I still haven’t even played the game yet, the system might be a complete dud (NOOOOOOO!!!!!) 🙂

I’m really dreading the 18 swordsmen. These ones were pretty easy but the swordsmen are far more detailed.

Pity we can’t go back in time now and amend our Kickstarter pledges.

In terms of game play I like what I’ve seen on the 3 or 4 (?) CoolMiniOrNot videos aired so far. It also looks like you would need to kit yourself out with a bunch of wound tokens (I can see myself raiding Eldritch or Arkham Horror) and misc markers.

The Shael Han Dragon Legionnaires are filling me with trepidation – tunics with edging, alone with bare arms and legs as well and blts and backpacks.

Last night I started on six Union Workers and a Boss. It is going to be a long process.
