ParticipantThanks to my local gaming group, I managed to get my first Infinity demo game tonight using the Red Veil starter set. I must say it makes a huge difference when you have someone teaching you the game. I had fun.
But UH is right about the fiddly nature of the rules. Throw away the Rulebook after you’ve learned the basic game and download an app that helps you build your army and has either online or offline support to look up rules definitions. Otherwise you could go crazy looking up all the minute details.
Other than that, it was fun to play, with AROs galore! Hint: suppressive fire (aka. Overwatch) rocks! I killed more models with Suppressive Fire during my ARO than my actual activations! π

ParticipantWelcome to Infinity! π It’s still my “dudes on a table” game of choice.
My local group is currently growing at a pretty good clip, so lots of game nights around town each week.

KeymasterI must give this game another go; we had a lot of problem unparsing the rules. But I havenβt been inspired to buy any figures beyond the starter set. I think itβs one of those rare ones that just isnβt for me.

Participant@ Wonderslug: yup. One of the Infinity “gurus” lives near my house. π So he’s teaching me Infinity and I’m teaching him WoK.
@UH : yeah. I think a 170/180 point game of infinity with the demo size play mat is just nice for me. Even a demo game with 7 minis took 90 mins. A proper 4′ X 4′ table gives snipers a crazy advantage. The only problem with infinity is too many specialised rules per mini. Until you memorise what each mini can do, plus their weapons, we will always be flipping pages in the rule book.

ParticipantUpdate to previous post: there’s an army builder app for iOS that has an integrated Infinity database, so no more flipping through rule books and charts looking for an obscure rule! Yay! AFAIK, it’s only available for iOS, but Android has lots more army builder options in comparison. So, UH… you know what to do before your next Infinity game… π
Just picked up an Icestorm set from one of my local gaming group guys. Assembling and painting now…

ParticipantUpdate again : Had my 2nd game of Infinity last week. Used my Nomads from Icestorm. It does make a difference with someone patient to tutor you. π
The game is extremely tactical, you need to know your troop capabilities well, and one poor positioning decision can ruin your entire force. Ouch! (cover, no cover, TO: Camo…)
@ UH: Infinity’s complications come from how each mini’s skills interact with another’s, how they buff one another up, using Lt. orders, etc.
Give it another go, after watching some tutorial videos again. The ones from Beasts of War for Icestorm are decent, but don’t give the full flavor of the game.
