Thanks for the game Ralf! Especially for your patience with me (and the client problems….probably on my end)!

Took some time to get those 12 rounds in due to him explaining a lot to me…rules and strategy. And sharing some pro tips along the way and explaining differences between my 1. Ed. and the 2. Ed. The client is really nicely done…even with cool sound effects ๐Ÿ™‚ All in all it was a fun game…with quite some interesting occurrences! Got a bit one-sided due to incredible dice luck on my side and the opposite on his. I am quite sure the “let the noob win” dice manipulation was switched “on” for this ๐Ÿ˜‰ Still the last tile draw could have won him the game with a bit of luck…which was not on his side this evening.

But despite that with a 1v1 compared to the 2v2 I knew before it was a much more enjoyable game. I think for 2 main reasons. First I was much more involved. And second Ralf is a great player. Even those stupidly lucky dice roles just made him laugh. And I realized it afterward how important that positive attitude towards “bad luck” is for a game in general. Sulking and complaining about what did not go as planned and should have worked etc. sucks the fun out of a game so much (which was the case in those one-sided 2v2).

So thank you again Ralf. I am in for another match in the future. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am really torn about WotR. I played a couple of games inside a few weeks. We played with 2v2. Each side had a seasoned player and a noob (one was me) All of those matches were very one-sided. Either critical cards did not show up…and it looks like there are crazy powerful ones in the game that make a huge difference. Dice roles with sieges or spotting the fellowship went so wrong so many times in a row. Just so many bad card/dice combos that made those games a lost cause for one side. Like getting nearly no recruiting dice etc. And not one of those games…but all of them. I gave up because it seemed like to much luck with dice rolls and card draws involved. Is that due to the game design or did we play wrong/bad…or is that a 2vs2 thing and 1v1 goes better. I have no clue. But what I know is that those games were not fun. I really like the theme and I really want to like the game…so maybe you two (Ralf and Peter) can help. I am up for an online game…if you are up to “enlighten” a disheartened noob ๐Ÿ™‚

If I understood CBยดs post right, the Code One rules will be free online in a few weeks. So if the minis do not interest you…I do not see a point in getting that 2 Player set. Beyond would make more sense. But I suppose the minis would go fast on eBay if necessary ๐Ÿ™‚

I tried Tabletopia before the crisis…and could never find someone to play. Do you have a free or paid account? Maybe I should try again.

We played TI4 with TTS and with steam chat or discord it works very well. All those long set-up and fiddly to manage games are really great online…if the UI is programmed right. One-click and all is set up or cleaned up etc. Saves a lot of time with those games!

@Uthoroc Such a great paint job! And that background makes it look very professional – love it! And since my spring cleaning is nearly done…and I have this week off…I will be painting…for real! After my horrible first 5 minis back in 1994 (40K 2nd Ed. Starter Box) and years of me saying “I have to try it again”. Now is finally the time! I ordered some stuff online…and it should arrive within a few days. I am not sure I will post pictures….for obvious reasons…but I let you know how it went! ๐Ÿ˜‰

@CK Lai I have not seen the rules yet…but I think it is just the basic rules with some smaller adjustments so that you can easily “upgrade” to N4 without having to “re-learn”. Oh…and I totally forgot about Recon…thanks for bringing that up. Wonder if that gets updated with N4? Wasnยดt that rules set created by Ash Barker from GMG?

With this crazy lockdown, my boardgame group tried TableTopSimulator on steam. We made it easy for us and chose Twilight Imperium 4 as our first game ๐Ÿ™‚ Works surprisingly well with a headset to talk to each other. It is no substitute….but for some situations, it is really great!

How about we try to get together for a game on there. It should even be possible (on a weekend) with that 10-hour time difference (morning/evening)?

@Kvamzi For a good look at Blackstone Fortress go to Ash Barkers Guerrilla Miniature Games channel. He is a really nice guy and has a healthy attitude towards gaming in general…imho. I like his reviews and battle reports and he does a ton of stuff.

@UH Oh…yeah! Had forgotten about that one. The one that started the co-op games. That is actually a good idea to get that one out again…thanks!

Did you see the new box “Operation Kaldstrom” for Infinity? Is has the new “simplified” rules “Code One”? I am really tempted to get the limited bundle…even if I so do not need new minis for infinity….arghhhhh!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a week off. Due to the corona panic here in Germany, all my planed hobby stuff has come to a total stop. All friends have canceled our dates :-(. Have been looking forward to playing Star Trek Ascandency at long last…has to be another time. Well…on the plus side…the spring cleaning is done early this year ๐Ÿ™‚
