Participant@UH Is the original game as good as they claim…so if one does not own that…would this be worth it?

ParticipantThink its only to back the oop first game…and maybe some extras along as Goals….but we will see.

ParticipantDonΒ΄t think that there will ever be “the perfect game”. For everyone “perfect” is something very different. What one finds to be perfect another one does not like at all..be it Rules,Fluff,Art ect.
So…what does it take to be a huge hit? I think you have to be in the sweet spot that is something that is close enough for a large audience…so they are willing to overlook ist “flaws”. And even that could be influenced by the current market. A game that is clearly not perfect…but has something that was not available for a long time…or the first time ever…peolpe are a lot more tollerent to the flaws (say like Frostgrave). The next release needs to be much better to be an equal hit because tollerence is much lower…and so on.
Not sure I used the right words to describe it…but did my best…hope you understand what I tried to say π

Participant@CK Lai Looks cool…will have to take a closer look at this. Thx!

Participant@universal head Yup…the said bargain was compared to their normal (insane) pricing for single models (new Kharn model 35$ – thats a starter box price for a lot of other games! For a Space Marine sized plasik model!!!). The 51 Models in Silver Tower…with some of them being really nice…for 150$…and an actual game on top…letΒ΄s call it a GW-bargain π
Besides GW being in their own world for many years…I do find it interesting that they slowly seam to change back to “the old days” with a bit of community interaction…starter bundles with saves to single buys…board games…reviving old favorites like Blood Bowl,Necromundo ect…redo White Dwarf the way it was back in the old days…interesting times!
Still not a fan of their rules…for some itterations now….less so of the release policy with the codices…and the pricing of them. So I spent my money on lots of other stuff for quite some time now. But I do like the fluff a lot…and the artwork…and the fact that they brought me into the hobby will make them for ever Special.

Participant@The8thPagan Skirmish is not Mass Combat…but better than nothing π
@CKLai Well…looking at the list of products they loose…besides Android and Terrinoth…they pretty much are dependent on that one (ficle?)license…and loose a good amount of sales volume. Without Asmodee in their corner it would be a pretty hefty blow. But egg or henn…it will be intresting to see where this leads.
I am no big fan of GW pricing…the plasic sinlge minis for 20+ are a bad joke…but the new boardgames are really a bargain when looking at the amount of minis you get for that price. And to be honest..you go for GW games for the models…not for the game/rules π

ParticipantI read elsewhere that GW was not happy with the miniature games from FFG…starting with huge hit x-wing and following with imperial assault. They supposedly asked FFG to not sell them as they saw them as competition to their games and “threatend” to not renew the license. As FFG had no intention to drop those megasellers they new that the license would go and that they could do something like runwars the miniature game to expand on the succes of some gameplay parts of the other games in one of their ipΒ΄s.
That sounds to me like something that could have happend….especially the protectiv part of GW….and with asmodee in the back FFG could live with loosing the license and with it a significant amount of money.
So…anyone going to “invest” in some of the games to be sold at 3 to 4 times the price next year? π
And now lets hope for the next big hit from FFG….”Star Wars The Miniature Game” ^^

ParticipantI canΒ΄t tell someone else if the price is worth it…thats up to each individualy. I have the big box with all the cards and tokens and like it. But I can say that all the stuff that makes it “different” is optional. If you do not like the dice-mechanic (like in SW) than do not use it. But if you give it a try…its a rather simple mechanic that “pushes” you from a combat oriented style to a more narrative style..while still fighting ;-). If that is not your cup of tea…also fine…you do not need it. The cards are the same thing…so much so that there is even a “normal” book without them. In essence they are the same as the gale force nine supplements to D&D…you have every information you need…be it items, spells or feats…at hand for easy reference…no bookflipping needed. I find it really cool and like 3rd for that. The only thing I have to complain about is the writing and editing of FFG…lets say that if you are used to writing that explains in depth but still is easy to understand and to the point, is build up in a logical order, easy to reference and has everything in one place…find another book. But that might be just me…I tend to get tired after the third time some not so importent info gets repeated for no reason when I am still waiting for some really vital info π

Participant@CK Lai Is it worth getting with just base game and 2 expansions?
Soulsorcerer
ParticipantYou are welcome! And there are way toooo many great things to have time for all of them…such a shame!
Soulsorcerer
ParticipantAs far as I know Kill Team is around for a some time now. The fanmade expanded rules are free to get…for example here http://heralds-of-ruin.blogspot.de/
Small model count and RPG like developement for your individual models…really fun! As are nearly all story-driven RPG/skirmishers π
And to see it beeing played by an awesome guy..look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q188JGbLpJw&list=PLzrPO7KIAtwXsamURXptmF8bIblKfZupe&index=16
And then go on look at more of his stuf…like mordheim…necromunda…this is not a test…and get hooked….but dont say I did not warn you guys ;-P

ParticipantI like the Cmon games….Wrath of Kings has a unique and cool look for each faction…did not play it yet…so no idea if the rules are solid…but the look is great…and for me that is a good part of the fun.
Even more a fan of Dark Age…here minis and rules are top notch…and the “March to Imortality” organized play has great scenarios every year. Not like an ongoing, world changing campaigne…but Close enough for me π
Maybe the will do something like that with WOK in the future too.
