I have waited too long. Fought too hard.
Get down and dirty with the troops with your Conquest: First Blood rules & reference!
One of the great things about the mass battle game from Italian publisher Para Bellum Wargames, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings, is that if you take the miniatures off their ranking bases you can play a skirmish-level game with them. That game is called Conquest: First Blood, and it’s taken me far too long to create a rules & reference for it.
This is obviously a great idea – two games for the price of one! The rules share many similarities, but there are important changes to all the special abilities, and of course things like movement, and there’s a general emphasis on the leader of each regiment of models. A regiment must stay with its leader’s command range, and in classic Conquest form, those leaders can call each out for individual challenges on the battlefield. But in general, those familiar with the rules of the parent game are going to have no problem adapting to this different scale of war.
I’m ashamed to reveal I haven’t yet had a chance to play a game of Conquest: First Blood, but I mean to soon, now that I’ve created this rules & reference. It’s an excellent idea to have army-level and skirmish-level rules for the same miniatures range, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they work on the battlefield.
