Rescue the President (no, not that one) with your Escape From New York rules & reference!
Who doesn’t love 1980s John Carpenter movies? I know I do – in fact The Thing is one of my all-time favourite films. Escape From New York came out the previous year in 1981 and doesn’t come near the heights of that classic, but it’s an enjoyable romp nonetheless. And Kevin Wilson – who better than the designer of Doom and Descent? – has captured it like lightning in a bottle with this unabashed plunge into the joys of Ameritrash gaming.
All that comes complete with lots of bits, fiddly rules, and another stinker of a rulebook from Pendragon Game Studio (their rulebook for The Thing is one of the worst rulebooks I’ve ever seen, and this one isn’t too good either). But armed with this rules summary you’ll have a much easier time of it, and can give yourself up to the thematic tastiness of this really excellent game. Fight off prisoners, battle the bosses, rescue the President, escape the city, betray your friends – it’s a fantastic good time and a real fun throwback – just like the film.
