Kickstarter Preview: Laser Terrain Co Terrain

By March 29, 2018Boardgames, Videos

This is for all you new people. I have only one rule. Everybody fights, no one quits.

Let’s have a look at an upcoming Kickstarter campaign by Laser Terrain Co – their spectacular modular system of MDF sci-fi terrain.

Occasionally a generous company will offer me products to preview or review on the EOG, but I’m quite picky about what I cover, mostly due to the old adage ‘so many games, so little time’. However if I do see something that intrigues me, or that I think would take a worthy place in the EOF collection or be of interest to EOG members, I accept. Such was the case with this MDF terrain product from Laser Terrain Co. It’s a big, chunky, modular sci-fi terrain system that instantly reminded me of that great scene in Starship Troopers where they have to defend the base from alien attack.

I’m checking out a couple of ‘Forward Base’ sets here, but the Kickstarter – which launches April 19th, 2018 – will also feature corridor sets, buildings and more. There’s even a very impressive floor lighting system, which I’m assured is very effective in normal light – you’re not forced to play in the dark for the effect!

The MDF product will be offered in painted and unpainted versions. Personally I really appreciated the painted set, which meant I could snap the whole thing together and play on it with the minimum of effort. Removing the various components from the sheets is a tedious, but easy, process, but once done you don’t even have to glue the bits together. They fit pretty securely, though I’d recommend using white glue for greater strength. Surprisingly, the large set featured here all fits in one square box, so storage isn’t a problem.

Be sure to watch to the end of the video to see some of the other configurations on offer. If you like what you see, check out the Kickstarter campaign when it goes live in April. Tell them the EOG sent you!

Please note this is not a paid promotion, but the product was sent to me free for review. I have no affiliation with Laser Terrain Co and am not responsible in any way for your experiences with the company or their product. The product featured is a pre-release version, and not necessarily the final product that will be offered for sale.
