A Quick Tour of Wellycon 2015

By June 9, 2015Videos

Nothing except a battle lost can be half as melancholy as a battle won.

Two days of gaming at Wellycon 2015.

The weekend before last I flew over the Cook Strait and into the windy city of Wellington for a couple of days of solid gaming with some friends. I missed it last year so it was good to be back. A new venue was spacious (if a bit chilly) and attendance was good. Here’s a quick video overview of the gaming that was going on. This year I took quite a few games with me and managed to play most of them: Dead of Winter (twice), Spartacus, Robinson Crusoe, Blood Bowl: Team Manager, Omen: A Reign of War, Rise of Cthulhu among others.

Not only that, but I was lucky enough to win a copy of The X-Files completely out of the blue in a spot prize! Score! Thanks to Cerberus Games in Wellington who donated that prize. I also bought the Robinson Crusoe expansion Voyage of the Beagle and a couple of Star Wars: Armada squadron packs from the retail tables of Board Game Rentals.

Thanks to Minty and Sam, Greg, Eric, Todd, Peter and many others too numerous to mention for being so hospitable and such good company. And of course many thanks to the organisers of Wellycon, who work so hard to get a few hundred gamers together in a room for a couple of days once a year.

Did you say “Special Esoteric Order of Gamers dice”??

    I’ll take a set, along with a large t-shirt.

Thank you very much, sir. 🙂

  • I did a ‘test run’ of 100 dice and they came out really well. At the moment, there are a couple of problems though – they were made in the US and, with shipping, they cost me about a buck each. Also shipping from NZ is very expensive – for example the minimum small parcel cost from here to the US is NZ$14.

So at the moment, unless you’re happy paying a premium, it’s not really viable to offer them for sale. But I’m working on other options because I really want to get EOG promotional stuff out to our members!

I’m a sucker for promotional stuff, but I can understand the logistical hurdles.

I can wait till you have “options”

Just happy to see you developing this type of thing.

I’ve been watching your videos over the past couple of years and totally dig them (I finally got around to registering with the site today just so I could post this). I especially like your excellent modular terrain videos and plan to create my own once I get a proper workbench set up in the garage.

Thanks for all the work you do on the site as well. It is an invaluable resource for making sense of the many games my friends and I play here in the states!

I too would be very much interested in some EOG schwag if you are able to work out the logistics of overseas parcels (though NZ$14 or more would be worth it).

      Cheers!

  • How on earth did I miss you at Wellycon last year?
