Next year The X-Files is back, and it seems strange that this iconic TV series has yet to be made into boardgame form—until now. IDW Games and Kevin Wilson (Descent: Journeys in the Dark, Android, Sid Meier’s Civilization: the Board Game) have brought us this new game, and while some have been disappointed that it’s not some kind of grand thematic adventure, others have praised it as a fun, relatively light game for newbies. Does it suffer from a bit of an identity crisis, or is it simply struggling under the weight of fan expectations? That question will go unanswered for now as I have yet to get it to the table, but in the meantime, let’s unbox that black box and see what lurks inside. The truth is in there …
