The Joy of Unboxing: Homeland: the Game

Everyone lies in this business, I accept that.

It’s time to unbox a game Homeland: the Game, a slightly forgotten game by Gales Force Nine.

Gale Force Nine has certainly proved to be skilful at creating great games out of licenced properties – Spartacus, Firefly, and Sons of Anarchy are all excellent (well, maybe that last one isn’t quite as interesting) – and here they are with another: Homeland: the Game. This one pretty much disappeared under the radar – but the reviews on Boardgamegeek have been very good. So when it popped up on Amazon for a crazy low price, I grabbed it.

I haven’t had a chance to get it to the table yet, but I enjoy ‘traitor’ mechanic games like Battlestar Galactica and Dark Moon, so I’m looking forward to giving this one a go. I watched one season of the series, but really any generic modern espionage/terrorism theme would have probably done the trick (and saved GF9 the licencing fees). Anyway, let’s all have a look inside the box. I filmed this unboxing at the end of last year and it was pushed to the side by other things, so it’s long past time it was shared with you all!

I think it’s a great game; I particularly like that it has three competing factions which play very differently.

The rulebook isn’t fantastic, though: there’s a user-compiled FAQ on BoardGameGeek which includes answers from the developers to a lot of questions that aren’t covered by the rules. As such, it could really use a rules summary… (hint, hint).
